Thoroughbred Charities of America elects Bob Beck to Board of Directors

LEXINGTON, Ky.—Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) recently elected Stites & Harbison, PLLC attorney Bob Beck, Jr., to its Board of Directors.

Beck is a Member (Partner) based in Stites & Harbison’s Lexington office. He is a transactional lawyer with a practice focus in equine law, corporate law and mergers and acquisitions. Outside of the firm, Beck is active in various civic and professional organizations. Most recently, Beck served as Chairman of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (2008-15). His community involvement has also included memberships on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation, the Lexington Philharmonic, the Fayette County Bar Association and the Lexington Arts and Cultural Council. He is a founder, member of the Board of Directors and former president of the American College of Equine Attorneys. He serves on the Planning Committee of the University of Kentucky Equine Law Seminar, is a member of the Board of Directors of BB&T in Central Kentucky and is a member of the Board of Advisors of Vanderbilt University Law School.

TCA is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA). TCA’s mission is to provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, by supporting qualified repurposing and retirement organizations and by helping the people who care for them. TCA distributes grants to several categories of Thoroughbred-related nonprofits including rehabilitation, retraining, rehoming and retirement organizations; backstretch and farm employee programs; equine-assisted therapy programs; and research organizations. Since its inception in 1990, TCA has granted over $21 million to more than 200 charities that successfully meet the criteria set forth in its annual grant application. From 2000-15, more than 95% of TCA’s expenditures were allocated to program services including direct grants.
