Attorney Douglass Farnsley named vice-president of Kentucky Bar Association

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Kentucky lawyers have elected Douglass Farnsley vice-president of the Kentucky Bar Association (KBA). Farnsley took the oath of office at the recent 2013 KBA Annual Convention. He began his one-year term on July 1, 2013.
Farnsley previously represented the 4th Supreme Court District of Kentucky on the KBA Board of Governors. He also served as co-chairman of the KBA 2013 Annual Convention Committee, which drew a record-breaking 2,250 attorneys to Louisville on June 19-21.
Farnsley is a member (partner) of Stites & Harbison PLLC. He is based in the Louisville office.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Farnsley earned his juris doctorate degree, cum laude, from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, Farnsley also obtained an LL.M. in Legal History from the University of Wisconsin (UW). After attending UW, he clerked for Judge Thomas Ballantine, United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, before joining Stites & Harbison.
Farnsley focuses on civil trial work, including the defense of professional and hospital liability claims. He has over 30 years of trial experience and has argued cases before state and federal appeals courts. Farnsley currently serves on Stites & Harbison’s General Counsel Committee and previously served on its Management Committee.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the International Society of Barristers.
Farnsley is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® (2007-13) for Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants, Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants and Product Liability Litigation – Defendants for 2012; and was named the Best Lawyers’ 2011 Louisville Product Liability Litigation Lawyer of the Year, and 2010 Louisville Medical Malpractice Lawyer of the Year. He is also listed in Kentucky Super Lawyers magazine (2007-12), where he has been listed among the Top 50 Lawyers in the state (2009-11).
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Kentucky, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
Farnsley is a passionate supporter of two historic sites associated with his family in southwestern Jefferson County — the Farnsley-Kaufman House and the Farnsley-Morman Landing — and is a member of the Advisory Board of Actors Theatre of Louisville.
The Kentucky Bar Association is an independent agency of the Supreme Court of Kentucky. Its authority to regulate the legal profession in Kentucky, delegated by the Kentucky Supreme Court through rules, is derived from the Kentucky Constitution.
